Denise took care of me.  I mean, she seriously saved me from a potentially awkward situation.  Denise Cordero, a/k/a “Diva D” is the owner of Diva D’Luxe – one of the most fab women’s fashion boutiques in Albuquerque.  Please allow me to share with you how Denise earned herself a forever devoted client – ME – so many years ago.

I had only been in New Mexico for a few months and was invited to a very special event by a man I had just met – a man who is now my husband.  I was in desperate need of “the” dress.  This is when I met Denise – my fashion savior.

Denise did have the dress but she cautioned me that she had only ordered limited sizes in it,  and informed me that another one of her clients was considering purchasing this dress for the VERY same event. Whaaa?  I am now in  ♥ love  with this dress!  In lightning speed, that dress went home with me and Denise advised the client so that she and I would not show up to the same event wearing the exact same thing – (a super cool move on her part.)

Guess what?  That very same client did come to the very same event and sat at the very same table that I did!  EGADS!  Can you even imagine the horror of what could of… oh! … I shudder…

On a recent drop-by to Diva D’Luxe, I thought I’d ask Denise a few questions that I’ve always wanted to know about her.  She was game.

MTT:   I really admire that you change your hairstyle as often as you do –  it’s long, it’s short, it’s an angled bob,  next you’ve got bangs…how often do you shake it up?

Denise:   I’d say at least 3 times a year.  My hair grows super fast.

MTT:   I know you purchase some of the clothing for Diva D’Luxe from other countries, how many different languages do you speak?

Denise:   I speak French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch… the last three only conversational.

MTT:   (Did you notice in my last post that I speak conversational  pig Latin?)

MTT:  Who are you buying for?  In other words, who is your customer?

Denise:  You know, after all these years of buying – I am finally my own customer.  I completely relate to my customer.  I’ve recently added a few lines to the store that I consider to be “yoga chic” – since yoga is something that I enjoy.

MTT:   I’m guessing you have a bazillion things in your closet…do you purge or horde?

Denise:   PURGE!  Unless it’s vintage or couture.

MTT:    What’s an item that we would be surprised to know that you own?

Denise:   Ok…well, I have this really bright red terry cloth robe with black scottie dogs all over it that was given to me as a joke.  I know…it’s so bad…but I literally wear it E-V-E-R-Y single night. I just LOVE it!

MTT:   ( EGADS!…I can’t even image the horror of this really bright red terry cloth robe…oh!…  I shudder…)

I feel pretty fortunate that I discovered Denise and that she took care of me so well.  She’s got a great fashion eye, is always on trend and skillful in her ability to tell you to if something just doesn’t quite look right on you.  AND, if you weren’t already aware of this, Denise is quite giving to the community and donates to many charitable organizations.

She’s even involved in a fun, new event happening this Saturday, October 12 at Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town. The event is called FESTIVAL the BAZAARand Denise will be providing all of the clothing and accessories for a unique fashion show.  There will also be a variety of artisans with amazing items for sale.  For more information, contact: director(at)spanishcolonial(dot)org
