Goldie Garcia is funny. I mean, she is “knee-slappin’, side-splittin’, please – I’m trying to breathe’” kind of funny – and I totally LOVE people who can make me laugh like that!
You really know someone is funny when weeks after I met with Goldie, I still find myself chuckling out loud over something she had said.
Goldie is, by the way, a professional comedian and has been performing all over the country for years (she’s known as New Mexico’s First Lady of Comedy) – but I’m not writing this post because she is funny. That’s just an extra little bonus that I got by meeting her.
I wanted to share with you some of Goldie’s other many talents. Such as, her talent for making SUPER amazing, handmade, one-of-a-kind, glitter and bottle-cap art.
Get them while they’re HOT, folks – Breaking Bad earrings!
Now, there are other bottle-cap artists, but I bet you didn’t know that Goldie was THE first creator of this art form. She started making this art way back in the 70’s. That’s right – while Goldie was making cool jewelry and creating a life-long career for herself, I was interested in 3 things: boys, disco dancing and…boys.
What started with bottle-cap art with embedded miniature saint pictures, evolved to include elaborate shrines devoted to the Santos or other recognizable personages – her works reflect both contemporary and religious elements.
Goldie makes earrings, bolos, pins, magnets (her magnets were even in the Whitney Museum of American Arts gift shop) car art that is designed to protect you from crazy, road rage drivers (or bad country music – depending on which way it faces…I’m giggling again) and shrines that are a delight to the senses.
You MUST see these in person to thoroughly appreciate the amount of work and (love) that goes into them.
I think all of Goldie’s art is just fantastic. If you act super fast – you might even be able to get a pair of these spooky earrings!
As the demand for her art grew, Goldie developed a special 15-step layering process to create these awesome glitter and rhinestone embellished treasures. With every layer, she introduces some kind of new, fun embellishment. Creating this layering process now meant that she needed to protect it with copyrights, etc. She needed help with this, and other business needs, and our friends at ACCION took care of her! (…perhaps they could help you too?)
FUN embellished magnets.
Goldie’s one-of-a-kind pieces have been purchased by many a famous person (Al Pacino, Hillary Clinton, Billy Bob Thornton, Michelle Obama, Julia Roberts…just to name a few) and you can own them too. Her earrings are nicely priced between $25-$30.
You can order a pair of the earrings I’ve highlighted on this post by contacting her directly through her site and you will also see lots of other options to choose from. Her art can also be seen at Sumner & Dene Gallery, Ambiante of Corrales and Doodlet’s Shop. There is so much more to learn about Goldie – my blog post only scratches the surface. You’ll understand why, once you click here.
Isn’t Goldie fun? I just think she’s great! I’m wondering if she is in the market for any new gal pals… because if so, WHERE can I sign up?
…the line forms behind me, people.
Goldie is a cutie …… Where can we hear her be funny ??? PR
I have several of her things because they just crack me up but I never knew she was so cute and funny. I hope to meet her someday.
Yes – she is super talented AND a hoot!
I REALLY like this art work!!! It’s traditional and right NOW–both at the same time.
Haven’t seen her perform, but if her humor is as dazzling as her visual work–well, it’s just got to be Good!
We bought Goldie’s fabulous earrings back in the days when we sold in New Jersey . . . love her work and her whimsy! Rock on Miss Goldie!
That’s cool! Yeah- Rock on, Miss Goldie!
